Why Waterloo matters to South London

Waterloo is the London terminus for South Western Railway. Trains run to Surrey, Hampshire and Dorset, including Guildford, Woking, Winchester, Southampton, Bournemouth, Portsmouth and Weymouth. If you are heading for a ferry from Portsmouth or Southampton, or a day at the New Forest, this is your station.

It is also right by the South Bank. The London Eye, the National Theatre, the Southbank Centre and the Old Vic are a few minutes' walk away. Plenty of our Waterloo bookings are not about trains at all. They are evenings out.

The drive from Crystal Palace to SE1

The route is fairly direct. Drivers head down through West Norwood or Herne Hill to Brixton, then up through Kennington and along the Kennington Road or St George's Road to the Waterloo area.

It is about 7 miles. Expect around 30 minutes in light traffic and up to 50 minutes in the rush hour. Those are typical figures, not promises. Brixton and the junctions around Elephant and Castle and St George's Circus can slow things down. Waterloo lies inside the Congestion Charge zone, which private hire vehicles pay during charging hours.

Waterloo station drop-off

Waterloo is big, and you want to be dropped near the right entrance. The main concourse can be reached from several sides, including the steps under the Victory Arch, the side entrances on Mepham Street and access from the Waterloo Road side.

Our drivers use the current set-down points and get as close as the roads allow. If you need step-free access to the concourse, let us know so we can choose the best spot.

Waterloo East transfer

Waterloo East is a separate station linked to the main one by a walkway. Southeastern trains call there on the way to and from Charing Cross. If you are catching a Southeastern service, tell us, as it can change where the driver stops. For trains that start at the terminus itself, see our Crystal Palace to Charing Cross private hire page.

South Bank minicab for evenings out

Theatre, concerts and dinner by the river are some of the nicest things to do in London, and getting home is easier with a car booked. Tell us the venue and the time your show ends. The driver will meet you nearby, which is far easier than queueing for a Tube after the curtain falls.

For a bigger group, a 6 seater minicab or a 7 seater minicab keeps everyone together.

Pickups at Waterloo

Coming back into London? Tell us your train and arrival time. The driver will call when they arrive nearby and agree where to meet. If the train is delayed, call us and we will move the pickup. Our line is open 24 hours a day.

Ferry and cruise connections

Waterloo is the station for Southampton and Portsmouth, where cross-Channel ferries and cruise ships depart. Cruise passengers in particular travel with a lot of luggage, and dragging it through the Underground is no way to start a holiday.

If you are heading for a ship, book a car to Waterloo with an estate or MPV so the bags fit easily. On the way home, give us your train and arrival time, and the driver will be waiting to bring you back to SE19.

Commuting from Waterloo

Some of our customers work in Surrey or Hampshire and commute from Waterloo. An early car to the station saves a train change at the start of the day. Regular bookings can be set up for the same time each weekday, each with a fixed fare.

Choose your car

  • Saloon for up to four passengers and around two large cases
  • Estate for more boot space, handy for ferry luggage
  • MPV for up to six passengers
  • 7/8 seater for larger groups

Child seats are available on request.

More station and local transfers

Close by, London Bridge serves Thameslink and Southern trains, and Victoria is the hub for the south coast. For trains to the west country, our minicab to Paddington is the one to book. We collect from across the area, including Dulwich and South Norwood.
