Why book a car to London Bridge?

Crystal Palace has direct trains to London Bridge, so you might wonder why anyone drives. The answer is usually about timing and luggage.

The first trains of the day do not always connect with an early Thameslink service to the airports in the north, or an early Southeastern train into Kent. Late at night, getting home after the last train can mean a long wait. And with a pushchair or heavy bags, the stairs at smaller stations are a real chore. A booked car fixes all three.

Trains from London Bridge

London Bridge is one of the busiest stations in London and is fully rebuilt with a huge street-level concourse. From here you can catch:

  • Thameslink trains north through St Pancras towards Bedford, Cambridge and Peterborough, and south towards Brighton
  • Southern trains to Sussex and Surrey
  • Southeastern trains to Kent, including the Medway towns and the Kent coast

That makes it a handy swap for anyone who wants to avoid crossing central London.

London Bridge has entrances on Tooley Street and St Thomas Street, linked by the main concourse.

The route across South London

London Bridge is about 7 miles from Crystal Palace. Drivers usually take one of two routes. One runs through Dulwich and Peckham onto the Old Kent Road. The other goes via Herne Hill and Camberwell to Elephant and Castle and up Borough High Street.

Typical times are around 30 minutes in light traffic and 50 minutes at peak times. Treat these as estimates. Peckham and the Elephant and Castle junctions are the usual hold-ups. London Bridge sits inside the Congestion Charge zone, which applies to private hire vehicles during charging hours.

Tooley Street drop-off and other entrances

The station has two main sides. Tooley Street is on the north, near the river and Hay's Galleria. St Thomas Street is on the south, beside The Shard and Guy's Hospital. Both lead into the main concourse.

Tell us which side suits you best when you book. If you are going to Guy's Hospital, the driver can drop you on the hospital side. Stopping is restricted near the station, so the driver will use the nearest legal set-down point.

The Shard and Borough Market

London Bridge is not only about trains. The Shard is right above the station, Borough Market is a short walk west, and the offices of the City are just across the river. Our London Bridge bookings include birthday dinners, market trips and early starts at the office.

For evenings out, book your return at the same time. The driver will meet you close to your restaurant at the time you choose. For bigger groups, the 7 seater minicab fits up to eight.

Hospital appointments at Guy's

Guy's Hospital, next to London Bridge station, is one of the busiest hospitals in London, and many of our passengers from SE19 have regular appointments there. A car to the hospital door is far easier than a train and a walk, especially after treatment.

Book your outward trip and give us a rough idea of when you will be finished. Call us when you are ready and the driver will come back to collect you. If you need help getting to the entrance, tell us when you book.

Working in the City

The City of London starts just across the river from London Bridge. Many of our early morning bookings are for people heading to offices around Bank, Monument and Liverpool Street. We can drop you at the station or drive you over the bridge to your office door, whichever is quicker on the day.

Choose your car

  • Saloon for up to four passengers and around two large cases
  • Estate for extra luggage room
  • MPV for up to six passengers, see the 6 seater minicab
  • 7/8 seater for larger groups

Child seats are available on request.

London Bridge transfer fare

The fare is fixed when you book. It depends on the time, the car and the route, including the Congestion Charge during charging hours. Pay by card or cash. Get your price from the form on this page, or call 020 8659 9000.

More station runs and local trips

If your train leaves from the West End side, our Charing Cross private hire page has the details, and Waterloo is nearby too. Flying out of Docklands? Our London City Airport minicabs take a similar route east. We pick up from Penge, Gipsy Hill and every other area around the park.
